Mindfulness is a hot topic at the moment as people look at ways to improve their quality of life. There are many ways of practising this, and often these can be tailored to fit in with your lifestyle. However, it does require a bit of practice and patience.
So what is Mindfulness?
There are many definitions of Mindfulness and it will be different for everyone, but I like to think of Mindfulness as a way of living so that we enjoy the present moment, while not worrying about the past and future. We can spend so much time fretting about things that may or may not have happened, that we forget about what is good in our lives and pay attention to what is hapening right now. Mindfulness is an approach which helps you to find your own way to achieve this. Everyone has there own way of being mindful, for some it is very spiritual, for others it is not, there is no right or wrong way.
Mindfulness has also some clinically proven benefits:
- Stress reduction
- Clarity and focus
- Greater resilience
- Enhanced creativity
- Improved relationships
- Improved concentration
- Rapport and communication
- Improved health and wellbeing
- Greater confidence and self esteem
- Ability to have better quality sleep
- Reduced anxiety and depression
- Improved work-life balance
- Greater work satisfaction
- Memory enhancement
- Pain reduction
Mindfulness has also been shown to be helpful in smoking cessation and weight reduction.
